Correspondence

by Mariano Spina/Novoa

At 14 years of age, immediately following my father’s passing from an aneurysm, I lost the ability to write in cursive letters. Over the years, I learned to embrace the all-caps handwriting which became my standard ever since, but this acceptance was merely aesthetic, as it was difficult to express certain things in such a brute, angular manner. This led to many a letter not being written due to lacking the expressiveness of calligraphy or cursive writing.

This book reproduces letters I wrote using colored adhesive tape in lieu of my lost handwriting, as well as artworks which sprouted from more recent ideas I was exploring in other mediums.
